Job Description

Clinical Informatics Data Architect
Remote
This is a Remote role.
Compensation: $60–$80 per hour

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Informatics Data Architect to lead the transformation of fragmented healthcare datasets into FHIR-compliant formats. In this pivotal role, you will architect advanced FHIR modeling and validation solutions, develop custom StructureDefinitions, and utilize FHIR Shorthand (FSH) to ensure all resources strictly adhere to US Core profiles and internal organizational extensions. You will design and execute robust data enrichment strategies for ingesting, harmonizing, and curating unstructured and semi-structured healthcare data, resolving duplication, and creating longitudinal patient data stores. The role also encompasses semantic interoperability and terminology mapping, building crosswalks between local codes and standards such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, and ICD-10, and implementing rigorous data quality validation processes. You will be responsible for developing clear and concise documentation to communicate data design requirements to engineering teams and stakeholders with varying technical expertise. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on healthcare data interoperability and support precision care and clinical research initiatives.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Architect and execute the transformation of fragmented healthcare datasets into FHIR-compliant representations, including development of custom StructureDefinitions and use of FHIR Shorthand (FSH) to ensure compliance with US Core profiles and organizational extensions.
  • Design and implement robust data enrichment strategies for ingestion, harmonization, curation, and deduplication of unstructured and semi-structured healthcare data (HL7 FHIR, HL7 v2, C-CDA), enabling the creation of longitudinal patient data stores.
  • Design and operationalize automated semantic interoperability and terminology mapping, building crosswalks between local interface codes and standards such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, and ICD-10 to ensure high-fidelity semantic consistency across the enterprise.
  • Apply rigorous validation logic and data quality processes to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Develop clear and concise documentation that effectively communicates data design requirements to engineering teams and stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a medical-related field; Master’s degree in Clinical Informatics required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a clinical informaticist, data architect, or data integration engineer in Healthcare or Life Sciences industries.
  • Expertise in standard data models and frameworks (e.g., FHIR, OMOP) and healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, NCPDP, CCD-A).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in healthcare knowledge standards and controlled terminologies (including SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm).
  • Strong skills in SQL, Python, R, dbt, and Jupyter Notebook; experience with cloud computing platforms, version control systems (e.g., Git), and collaborative development tools.
  • Preferred: PhD in Clinical Informatics.
  • Preferred: Experience developing informatics solutions for precision care or clinical research.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of clinical practice, research, and workflows in hospital or ambulatory settings.
  • Preferred: Understanding of core Artificial Intelligence techniques.
