Patient Access Supervisor

Tampa Bay area

On-Site role

$25.00-$29.00 per hour

Contract-to-hire, 6 months

Schedule: Tues-Sat, 8:30am-5pm

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client, a large healthcare system in the Tampa Bay area, is seeking an experienced Patient Access Supervisor to oversee Emergency Department (ED) registration operations at a major acute care hospital, as well as provide supervisory support to two offsite ED locations approximately 30 minutes from the main facility. This contract-to-hire position requires a hands-on leader with a strong background in ED or urgent care registration, revenue cycle management, and the ability to drive accountability and high performance across a team. The Patient Access Supervisor will play a critical role in ensuring efficient patient registration, compliance with healthcare regulations, and the delivery of excellent service to patients and staff.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Supervise and lead a team of approximately 25 Patient Access/Registration staff across the main ED and two offsite ED locations
  • Monitor and manage daily KPIs including collections, denial rates, registration accuracy, and work queue activity
  • Maintain and review departmental reports; proactively identify and address workflow gaps
  • Participate in staffing coverage, stepping in directly when call-outs occur to ensure uninterrupted operations
  • Conduct performance management activities including scheduling, time tracking, mentoring, coaching, and progressive discipline
  • Train and evaluate staff, coordinating education sessions to maintain high accuracy standards and reduce denials and write-offs
  • Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, CMS, EMTALA, HIPAA, and organizational policies and procedures
  • Partner with ancillary departments and support staffing coordination needs
  • Stay current with managed care changes and communicate relevant updates to the team

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum 2+ years of supervisory or team lead experience in a healthcare setting
  • 3–5 years of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) experience
  • Direct experience working in an Emergency Department or Urgent Care setting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage KPIs, work queues, and team performance metrics
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of insurance, authorizations, denials, and financial clearance processes
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills
  • Ability to step into coverage roles as needed and adapt to changing priorities
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred (RHIT or RHIA accepted)
  • Field of study: Business, Accounting, Finance, Health Administration, Nursing, or related field
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) via NAHAM preferred
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) via HFMA preferred
