Research Billing Compliance Specialist
Remote
Contract (20ā40 hours/week, flexible schedule)
Compensation: $30ā$35 per hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking an experienced Research Billing Compliance Specialist to provide temporary, remote contract coverage during a period of program growth and a planned staff leave. In this role, you will support both hospital and professional research billing compliance workflows, ensuring research-related charges are reviewed accurately and within required timelines to maintain timely billing and revenue cycle performance. This is a fully remote, US-based position with flexible hours (20ā40 hours/week) for an initial 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate will have hands-on Epic experience, a strong understanding of research billing regulations, and the ability to manage high volumes independently while quickly onboarding to support operational continuity.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Review and validate research-related hospital and professional charges for billing compliance
- Work daily within Epic charge review queues to process and monitor charges
- Ensure timely review of charges within 30 days of service to meet internal KPIs
- Distinguish between billable and non-billable research services
- Identify and resolve billing discrepancies and late charge drops
- Collaborate with research operations and revenue cycle stakeholders to support compliance
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure audit readiness
- Meet productivity expectations: ~50 hospital accounts/week (multiple charges per account) and ~150 professional charges/week (one-to-one charge structure)
- Support operational performance during periods of program growth.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 2+ years of clinical research experience
- Research billing compliance experience
- Hands-on experience working in Epic
- Familiarity with both hospital and professional billing workflows
- Strong understanding of charge review processes, research billing regulations, and revenue cycle dependencies
- High attention to detail and ability to manage high volume independently
- Prior experience supporting academic medical centers or large health systems (preferred)
- Experience in high-volume research billing environments (preferred)
- Experience with Clinical Conductor (CTMS), Florence/eBinder, or SharePoint (preferred)
- Ability to quickly onboard and operate with minimal ramp time (preferred)
- Interest in short-term engagements or flexible schedules (preferred)
