Patient Access Representative
900 S Caton Ave, Baltimore, MD 21229
On-Site
6-month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full-time
Pay: Based on experience; includes holiday pay and overtime opportunities

Join Ascension Health as a Patient Access Representative at our Baltimore location. In this critical role, you will provide exceptional customer service to patients and families while supporting the Emergency Department (ED) and hospital admissions. You will thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, working directly with patients, staff, and providers. This position offers a variety of shift options (day and night), overtime opportunities, and a professional dress code with branded apparel provided.

Schedule Options (40 hrs/week, 100% on-site)

  • Day Shifts:
    • Sun–Tue: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM + Wed: 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM
    • Wed: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM + Sun–Tue: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
    • Mon–Fri: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (includes ED runner support for admissions/floor)
  • Night Shift:
    • Wed: 1:00 AM – 7:00 AM (Thurs morning) + Thurs–Fri: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Overtime opportunities are prevalent and highly encouraged.

Dress Code

  • Black slacks + branded blue polo shirt (2 provided at start)
  • Additional polos must be purchased (typically 4–5 total)
  • Temporary unbranded polos from Amazon permitted until branded ones arrive
  • Sizes: unisex (true to size) & women’s cut (runs small, size up recommended)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Team-oriented mindset (this is not an independent role)
  • Mobility to walk, stand, and frequently move between departments and patient rooms
  • Comfort discussing financial responsibilities with patients
  • Proficiency with computers, typing, and multitasking with dual monitors

Preferred (Not Required):

  • Prior healthcare or hospital experience
  • Insurance knowledge

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet and assist patients in the Emergency Department and admissions areas
  • Complete admission paperwork and ensure accuracy of patient records
  • Serve as a runner to deliver documentation between ED, patient rooms, and hospital floors
  • Discuss residual balances and assist with payment collection as needed
  • Accurately input data using dual monitors and hospital systems
  • Collaborate closely with team members and hospital staff in a high-volume environment
