Job Description

Job Title: Trauma Registrar

Hourly/Salary Compensation Range: 35-40/hr

Location: Crescent City, CA – Sutter Coast Hospital, 800 East Washington Blvd.

Hours: Full-time, Days, 100% Onsite | Contract/Limited-Term

Start Date: July 6th

Job Description (Summary/Duties):

The Trauma Registrar is responsible for managing the trauma registry database for the Trauma Services department. This role ensures that trauma data is accurate, timely, and easily accessible to support program operations, required reporting, and survey readiness.

Key duties include:

  • Collecting, compiling, abstracting, and presenting data related to:
    • Trauma incidence
    • Trauma severity
    • Patient outcomes
    • Causes of injury
    • Required trauma indicators
  • Maintaining clinical and research databases for trauma-related programs or specialty clinics
  • Supporting trauma management and program requirements, including those for Oregon and California
  • Assisting with data used for:
    • Process improvement
    • Clinical effectiveness projects
    • Research studies
    • Education activities for staff, patients, and families
  • Ensuring data integrity, reliable registry workflows, and backfill coverage during the recruitment and hiring of permanent staff

This is a 100% non-clinical, non-patient-facing role, focused on trauma data integrity and trauma registry management.

Skill Set Requirements (Must-Have Skills):

  • Current Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS)
  • AIS course completion through the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM)
  • ATS Trauma Registry Course (TRC) completion
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Trauma registry data input, management, and reporting
    • Trauma data quality, accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility
    • Collecting, compiling, abstracting, and presenting trauma data (incidence, severity, outcomes, causes of injury, required indicators)
  • Ability to support trauma program requirements for Oregon and California
  • Proficiency in maintaining clinical and research databases related to trauma or specialty programs
  • Ability to work effectively in a non-clinical, data-focused environment similar to coding or registry functions

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with trauma survey readiness or trauma program assessment activities
  • Experience supporting process improvement, clinical effectiveness, or research studies using trauma data
  • Experience preparing information and data for patients, families, or education efforts
  • Prior experience working in a hospital trauma services department
  • Ability to work independently and manage data/registry responsibilities with minimal supervision

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Required:
    • CAISS certification
    • Completion of AIS course (AAAM)
    • Completion of ATS Trauma Registry Course (TRC)
  • Preferred:
    • Any relevant clinical or health information background (e.g., RHIT, RHIA, nursing, paramedic, or other healthcare experience) is a plus but not mandatory, as the role is fully non-clinical.
