$30-35 per hour (12-month contract, mileage reimbursed at the federal rate)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Healthcare Client is seeking a hands-on Network Technician or Network Engineer for a 12-month onsite contract in Charlotte, NC. This execution-focused role centers on managing a backlog of network refresh projects across hospitals, clinics, and administrative facilities. You will own the refresh lifecycle, ensure high-quality documentation, and collaborate closely with internal teams and vendors to maintain optimal network performance. The position requires flexibility for after-hours and weekend work, as project schedules are dependent on facility availability, but the manager offers flexibility to ensure a balanced 40-hour workweek. Local travel between sites is required, with mileage reimbursed at the federal rate.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Maintain technical performance of network systems supporting hospitals, medical office buildings, physician practices, administrative, and financial offices.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and escalate as needed to ensure optimal operation and utilization of network resources.
  • Support and administer network infrastructure, collaborating with Information Services departments and vendors to provide stable and reliable connectivity.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of network infrastructure and understand the inter-relationships between applications and network impact.
  • Implement routine network changes and designed solutions (switches, routers, hardware) independently, following established designs and configurations.
  • Physically and logically install network components, including cabling, routers, switches, and UPS devices, into a unified network.
  • Document configuration and network changes, ensuring accuracy, compliance with standards, and high-quality documentation.
  • Resolve help desk tickets and network problems, track and trend issues, and drive resolution while following change management processes.
  • Participate in network refresh projects, execute project plans, and support process improvement initiatives within Information Services.
  • Assist in defining network infrastructure requirements, research hardware/software solutions, and contribute to the development of administrative standards and procedures.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, accepting instruction and leadership from fellow team members.
  • Provide callback support, including after-hours and weekend work as required by project schedules (not to exceed 40 hours per week).
  • Travel locally to various sites as needed, maintaining dependable transportation and meeting physical requirements.
  • Follow defined protocols for customer interactions, balancing needs and resources, and ensuring excellent customer service.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience installing and supporting complex information systems, preferably in a healthcare environment utilizing client/server technologies.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, routing protocols, wireless protocols, and broadband.
  • Experience with client/server technologies, IPAM/DNS/DHCP, Internet, and network hardware (routers, switches, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively handle customer contacts and problem resolution.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercising judgment and creativity in problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in documentation, time management, and customer service.
  • Available for after-hours and weekend work as needed; must have dependable transportation for local travel.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, twist, bend, kneel, and perform fine hand manipulation (including typing for extended periods).
  • Must be able to sit up to 80% of the workday and perform work-related travel.
  • Preferred: Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP).
  • Preferred: 5+ years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Flexible work schedule within a 40-hour workweek, with manager support for work-life balance.
  • Mileage reimbursement at the federal rate for local travel.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful network projects in a healthcare setting.
  • Collaborative team environment with exposure to multiple facilities and technologies.
  • Potential to gain or expand experience with Cisco technologies and healthcare IT systems.
