Position: Outpatient Coder – Remote
Duration: 6 month Contract to Hire
Start Date: ASAP
The Outpatient Coder will review and interpret health documentation to identify pertinent diagnoses/procedures that require code assignment for outpatient records. They will demonstrate appropriate use of coding software and coding resource material to meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
Experience Required:
- 2+ years of strong E/M coding
- 2+ years of experience coding one of the specialties (listed below)
- Cardio or ENT (ears, nose throat)
- Has an active AAPC, AHIMA, E/M Cert., or other specialty certifications
- Experience with any EMR systems
Job Responsibilities:
- Review and interprets health record documentation to identify pertinent diagnosis/procedures that require code assignment for outpatient records.
- Demonstrates appropriate utilization of coding software and coding reference material
- Assigns/sequences ICD-10 and CPT to selected medical records per coding guidelines and processes.
- Queries physicians to ensure appropriate documentation for accurate coding.
- Reviews level of care/status assignment orders and initiates reconciliation process.
- Abstracts key information from patient medical records.
- Identifies and abstracts all physician, disposition codes, and other vital abstract data
Soft Skills:
- Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure
- Possess the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment
- Proficient in computer typing skills
